Corporate America

A friend of mine posted on facebook, “Dear WAL-MART, THERE SHUD B A CHECKER AT EVERY LANE DURIN HRS 5:00-9:00 ON FRIDAYS AT LEAST!! WHAT COMES THRU DURIN THOSE HRS PAYS ALL OF CHECKERS FOR A WEEK”

I felt compelled to click “Like” and then I posted, a fake quote:

“Why hire ten people to do the job of ten people, when you can hire one person to do the job of ten people and pay them less for their trouble?”–corporate America

I am intimately familiar with the frustrations of working for a company that doesn’t believe in denting their bottom line enough to take the pressure of their workers’ backs, and my husband still deals with the downhill-rolling-feces of corporate America on a daily basis.

One of the reasons I chose to go back to college was to avoid being a bottom-rung employee in a back-breaking manual labor job for the rest of my life. I know that my college educations by no means elevates me above any of the other people in this world, but in the eyes of those that do the hiring and firing, it’s an extra leg-up. If I tried diligently enough, I’d have a job in an office somewhere, but even though I’m no June Cleaver, I do want to enjoy this time with my children in their formative years.

Donna Summer–It’s a sacrifice working day to day for little money, just tips for pay, but it’s worth it all just to hear them say that they care.
